From Pitchfork:

J Dilla to Release New EP of Vocal Tracks, Listen to “Diamonds (The Shining Pt. 1)”

From the upcoming album, The Diary

jdilla - diamonds & ice

Here’s another piece of the The Diary, the forthcoming collection of unheard J Dilla vocal tracks he recorded in the early 2000s. Following the first single, “Anthem”, b/w “Trucks”, this one is called “Diamonds (The Shining Pt. 1)” and was produced by Nottz. It’ll be released on the Diamonds & Ice EP, out August 27 via the Pay Jay imprint, run by Dilla’s family and estate.
Both “Diamonds (The Shining Pt. 1)” and “Ice (The Shining Pt. 2)” (the latter produced by Madlib) have circulated in early mixes previously, but these are the final versions. The EP also contains “The D”, an instrumental track by Madlib that Dilla had intended to record vocals over, but was unable to before his death.
The 12″ EP’s first pressing will be released on clear vinyl in a sleeve designed by Jeff Jank, featuring art by Shepard Fairey and B+.
As for the rest of The Diary, which was tentatively scheduled for release this spring, we’re waiting patiently.
Diamonds & Ice:
A1 Diamonds (The Shining Pt. 1)
A2 Diamonds (The Shining Pt. 1) (alternate)
A3 Diamonds (The Shining Pt. 1) (instrumental)
B1 Ice (The Shining Pt. 2)
B2 Ice (The Shining Pt. 2) (Ruff Draft version)

Some of the beats are by Jonwayne, others recycled from the Gods of Rap. The original Cassette (R.I.P.) and Cassette 2 were both cassette releases only. This time around we’re offering a free download of the album. The cassette version is slightly expanded, containing a bonus track. Running time: 37 mins. Mastered by Daddy Kev. Artwork by Jeff Jank.

About the title: Jonwayne’s real name is Jon Wayne. Marion Morrison is the real name of the Hollywood cowboy guy John Wayne, who took his screen name from Jonwayne’s great-great-great-great-great uncle. What comes around goes around.

From Rappcats:

Porter Chops Glasper is the first in a series of instrumental albums planned from Grammy Award-winning artist Denaun Porter, the producer working as “Mr. Porter” for the likes of hip-hop’s Dr. Dre, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Busta Rhymes and Snoop Dogg, and worldwide icons like Burt Bacharach, Beyonce and Shakira.

The album is inspired by the music of fellow Grammy Award-winning jazz musician Robert Glasper. Porter explains, “Long story short, I am a fan of Robert Glasper. This project contains samples of music of his from the internet, official releases, and even live performances I saw on YouTube. Porter Chops is a representation of when, I feel, the business side of things interfere too much with my creative process.”
